FOUNDED IN 1980 IN THE CITY OF SAN YSIDRO, CALIFORNIA, MONTE DE PIEDAD® IS A FAMILY BUSINESS WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY WITH PLEDGE LOANS.

The history of Monte de Piedad® in California dates back to 1977, when Don Francisco, the company’s founder, worked as   manager for a supplies chain store in San Diego, CA. While working there, he noticed that many of his co-workers lived day-to-day and that they were always in need of extra cash as the end of the work week drew closer. Given that Don Francisco was a clever investor of his finances, he began to loan money to his co-workers in exchange for a small interest on their return.

In only a few years, Don Francisco had already gained a good amount of clients who were constantly in need of his services. During this time, he also developed a special interest on gold for its fickle price and for the attention that it received in the media. He, naturally, began to deal in gold and eventually conceived the idea of joining gold within the loan transaction process. It was this way that Monte de Piedad® was established in 1980.

Almost 30 years after, Monte de Piedad® continues to provide loans with collaterals to the following communities in San Diego County: San Ysidro, Logan Heights, and City Heights. A new location in National City is coming soon.
